What is the low-speed performance when using an eddy current dynamometer?

The eddy current dynamometer mainly consists of a rotating part, a swinging part, and a measuring force part. Today, I will briefly introduce 'the low-speed performance when using an eddy current dynamometer.'

From the structure of the eddy current dynamometer, it can be seen that the inductor mainly consists of a rotating part and a swinging part (armature and excitation coil). The sensor on the rotor shaft is shaped like a gear, and the DC excitation coil is fixed coaxially with the rotor. When DC power is supplied to the excitation winding, a magnetic field is generated around it, and a closed magnetic flux is produced around the excitation winding. Clearly, the sensory response on the left side of the winding has one polarity, while the right side has the opposite polarity. During rotation, eddy currents are generated due to the periodic change in magnetic density values. The magnetic field produced by the eddy currents interacts with the magnetic field that generated those eddy currents, resulting in a braking torque opposite to that of the motor being tested, causing the armature body to swing and pass through the armature. The force arm on the body transmits the braking force to the measuring device. Eddy currents generate heat in the eddy current ring, and the cooling water entering the eddy current ring carries away the heat, achieving energy exchange and thermal balance. The speed measurement uses a non-contact magnetic electric speed sensor and a 60-tooth crank set mounted on the spindle, converting the speed signal into an electrical signal for output.

Eddy current dynamometers are widely used in engine test benches. The engine speed is very high, and low-speed testing is not required. Eddy current dynamometers are also used on motor test benches. If testing is only conducted above the rated speed, a general eddy current dynamometer can meet the requirements.
